Imeth walked the stall lines at the town's own speed, slower than a ship's and harder to fake, and read the place as she had been taught to read any room before she was taught anything else: by its weights, and by its children. The children owned the trench but the high end of it, where the rails climbed toward the breech, and there their game stopped at an invisible line and turned back without a child seeming to decide it.
