About
Chief Petty Officer aboard ISV Endurance, ISCA Frontier Command. Long-service rating; the weathered, dry, competent NCO who orients Ensign Brandt (and the cold reader) at the commissioning send-off — the first person in uniform to say something Brandt can actually use.
How they speak
Dry, weathered, unsentimental, kind underneath. Cuts her own hair to a standard and never thinks about it again. Talks in usable rules ("she's just a lot of small jobs standing next to each other"); can tell the true half of a speech from the flag-half and says so. Distinct from the officers: she has no stake in the ceremony, only in whether the kid beside her will be all right out there.
