She does not ask for anything and does not thank anybody. Says the money is short before anyone else can. Hands in her coat for the whole of the ranging test, and asks nothing. She names the stakes flatly and without self-pity: "there's no berth here and there's no road past here either, and the boat that stops coming to us stops coming to the four places past us." No speech about isolation.
